The city of Veliko

Welcome to this acticle focus on the city of Veliko Tarnovo.

Known as the historical capital of the Secon Bulgarian Kingdom, Veliko is located in north central Bulgaria.

With now approximatly 90 000 inhabitants the city counts an interesting story especially with the tourist sites. I have made a short list of the main interesting sites.

Tzarévetz

Tzarévetz was the royal city of the second Bulgarian Kingdom and is now a tourist site which allow you to discover the walls and the main building.

The Multimedia Visitor Centre

Named by « Tsarevgrad Tarnov » the centre allows you to learn the story of the second Knigdom of Bulgaria. There are many characters, paintings and movies, another way to learn by staging.

The Forty Martyrs Chruch

The Chrurch was build under the reign of Ivan Asen tsar 2 (1218 – 1241). This is in this place who Ferdinand de Saxe-Cobourg-Gotha, an Army general from Austria, proclaims the independence of Bulgaria in 1908.

We could think the fact that Veliko still in the past by the medieval architecture and the old Historic buildings. But now the modern side of the city is totally different, it became an important commercial and university city.

Veliko is a beautiful city which is worth to visit.

Tank you for the reading.
