Currency

Hi guys !

For my first article since we arrived in Veliko Turnovo for our Erasmus, I will talk about the currency of Bulgaria.

Bulgaria is not part of the Euro zone so they use the national currency which is the leva. At the moment 1 leva is worth 0.51€ so for a lot of Europeans Bulgaria is quite cheap !

For us, French people, it is really cheap. The cost of living here is quite low, the price of a room in the dormitory of the university is around 800 leva for 4 and a half month so around 400 euros and it is almost the same for an apartment in town.

Even food is really cheap, you can get a big and good meal in a restaurant for 8 or 9 leva !

The only things that we found more expensive here than in France are the electronic devices. For example, one of us was looking for a speaker and looked the price in a few stores. He changed his mind when he realized the speaker was more expensive by 50-60 euros than in France.

So we compared the prices of different electronic devices, such as external hard drives or smartphones and they, indeed, cost more in Bulgaria !

So that is pretty much it for the currency and the cost of living in Bulgaria,
